MS+PD City 2 Surf Success

A huge thank you to the dozen people who joined the MS+PD City 2 Surf team.  We had a fantastic time while accomplishing a great goal.  As our Physiotherapist Jessie Snowdon has explained many times, the benefits of exercise not only impact strength and fitness but quality of life and fatigue as well.  The members of our team pushed themselves to complete their own personal goals and felt a great sense of accomplishment afterwards.

We’d also like to thank Personal Trainer Cher Hunter (who leads our Friday Nordic Walking group) for her generous donation to the Society and providing great food for us to eat after the City 2 Surf.

Court Theatre Fundraiser

The Court Theatre presented a private showing of The Court Jesters to a full house on Sunday 31 January.  The Society would like to say thank you to all who purchased tickets (and sold tickets on behalf of the Society).  The night was a huge success and the Court Jesters are a group of amazingly talented people with unbelievably razor-sharp wit.

The Society would like to thank the many members and friends of the Society who made donations for the raffle.  We are also extremely grateful to the following sponsors of our raffle:

The Court Theatre
Hinton’s Restaurant and Café
Life Pharmacy – The Palms
Waitikiri Golf Course

Super Liquor Papanui
Bohemian Café and Bar
C4 Coffee
Rangiora Golf Course

MS+PD Information Day

This year Parkinson’s Awareness Week was the 1-7 of November.  Due to the many requests we had for information on MS, Parkinson’s and the Society during Carnation Day we decided it would be a good idea to hold an Information Day on Wednesday, 4 November.

We had four information sites around Christchurch and volunteers passed out information throughout the day.  There were many requests for information on the Society and it was a great way to let people know that there is a resource available for those diagnosed with MS and Parkinson’s.

Thank you to all those who volunteered their time to pass out information.  We couldn’t hold events like these without your amazing help.

2009 Carnation Day Street Appeal

A huge thank you to all who helped make the 2009 Carnation Day on Friday 4 September a big success.  We had over 300 volunteers, including high school students, local MPs, Society members and community volunteers.  Several local businesses also placed buckets on their counters during MS Awareness Week.

The Big Bog Beard-Off - A Huge Success

Thank you to all involved for making The Big Bog Beard-Off a huge success. The Society would like to say a huge thank you to The Bog Irish Bar and especially 'Ma' (aka Chris) for being the inspiration for this fundraiser and Matt Kamstra for seeing the idea to fruition. Over $4,000 was raised for the Society, which will go a long way to provide support for people with MS and Parkinson's in Canterbury.

For those who missed it, there were beards ranging in age from 3 months to 30 years being shaved off to raise money for the Society. Ian 'The Hedge' Costello, sporting a 30-year-old beard, and his fellow band member Tom Gregg, whose beard dates back to the mid ‘80s, shaved their beards in support of this very worthy cause. There were rumours circulating that Ian had a bottle of Jameson's Whiskey hiding in there.

A big thank you to Man Up Hair and Body for donating their time to do all the shaving. There was talk going on that after the beards they chopped through the razors might need a sharpen.
