Second Annual Footloose Fun Walk - 6 November 2011

The second annual Footloose Fun Walk was full of family fun. Around 90 people participated on Sunday 6 November in North Hagley Park. While some chose to walk 2km, others pushed themselves to complete 5km and still others rounded the park twice for a 10km run. Over $1000 was raised through registration fees and sponsorship.

We would like to thank those who volunteerd their time to help marshal the event and run the sausage sizzle. We would also like to thank: Hoyts, Orana Wildlife Park and Willowbank for providing vouchers as spot prizes, Mitre 10 for supplying the bouncy castle, Coupland's Bakeries for donating bread and especially to Ellesmere Butchery for donating all the food for the sausage sizzle.

If there are any outstanding sponsorship forms please return these to:

2010 Carnation Day Street Appeal

This year's annual street appeal was a huge success. More than 400 volunteers collected on Friday 3 September at 50 locations throughout Canterbury. Together they raised over $28,000. This money will go directly into providing support for our members with MS and Parkinson's.

2009 Carnation Day Street Appeal

A huge thank you to all who helped make the 2009 Carnation Day on Friday 4 September a big success. We had over 300 volunteers, including high school students, local MPs, Society members and community volunteers. Several local businesses also placed buckets on their counters during MS Awareness Week.

The Big Bog Beard-Off - A Huge Success

Thank you to all involved for making The Big Bog Beard-Off a huge success. The Society would like to say a huge thank you to The Bog Irish Bar and especially 'Ma' (aka Chris) for being the inspiration for this fundraiser and Matt Kamstra for seeing the idea to fruition. Over $4,000 was raised for the Society, which will go a long way to provide support for people with MS and Parkinson's in Canterbury.

For those who missed it, there were beards ranging in age from 3 months to 30 years being shaved off to raise money for the Society. Ian 'The Hedge' Costello, sporting a 30-year-old beard, and his fellow band member Tom Gregg, whose beard dates back to the mid ‘80s, shaved their beards in support of this very worthy cause. There were rumours circulating that Ian had a bottle of Jameson's Whiskey hiding in there.

A big thank you to Man Up Hair and Body for donating their time to do all the shaving. There was talk going on that after the beards they chopped through the razors might need a sharpen.
